Influenza

Flu is a viral infection, which can be severe and lead to death. It is spread via droplets in crowded environments but also can be transmitted directly from person to person and via hand contamination. It is present worldwide but causes epidemics in the Northern hemisphere from November to April and in the Southern hemisphere from April to September. Symptoms usually occur within 1-3 days and include fever, chills, headache, muscle aching and coughing and sneezing. It is advised for some travellers but is also now available as a private vaccine for those not eligible on the NHS.
